CONDUCTING

George studied music at the University of Birmingham, where he took up conducting. In his final year, George was selected for the conducting specialism and also formed his own ensemble, the St Nicholas Sinfonia.
After graduating, George attended the University of Surrey, achieving Distinction in his Masters Degree in conducting. Since then, he has received tuition and masterclasses from prestigious tutors including Jorma Panula, Colin Metters and Peter Stark.
Whilst at Surrey, George was appointed Musical Director of the West Chiltington Silver Band, a post which he held until 2019. In 2015, George became Musical Director of the Chorus of Our Lady of Lourdes, Lee, followed by similar appointments with Sittingbourne Orpheus Choral Society, Phoenix Choir of Crawley and the St Albans Rehearsal Orchestra.
In 2019, George founded the London Philanthropic Orchestra, with the aim of putting on accessible orchestral concerts in aid of charity. Since its inception, the orchestra has raised tens of thousands of pounds for a range of different causes, including Parkinsons UK, NSPCC and the Lewisham Food Bank. Players come from all over London and include members of top ensembles such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, English National Opera and English National Ballet Philharmonic.
George took his first singing lessons at the comparatively late of 25, while preparing for an opera conducting masterclass. After initially studying with Alison Wells, he commenced a Masters at Trinity Laban, receiving the Elliott Rosenblatt Memorial Scholarship, the Morag Noble Scholarship and the Kathleen Turner Vocal Scholarship.
From 2019 to 2021, George was a choral scholar at the Church of Saint John at Hackney, where he met his fellow founder members of the Sonare vocal quartet. Since forming in 2021, Sonare have mounted six concert tours of the UK, gaining a reputation for innovative and exciting programming.
On the stage, George has given the world premieres of Simone Spagnolo's All Rest and Pam Tomlinson's Games. He has twice toured in Merry Opera's acclaimed stage production of Handel's Messiah, and sang chorus in Hurn Court Opera's production of Rossini's La Cenerentola.
Also in demand as a concert soloist, George sang the baritone solo in the UK premiere of Craig Hella Johnson's Considering Matthew Shepard with the Royal Leamington Spa Bach Choir. Other recent solo engagements include Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols with Horsley Choral Society and Mozart's Coronation Mass with Upchurch Choral Society.
